About
About this independent guide
The LNER Route Guide is an independent travel guide to the places you can reach on London North Eastern Railway trains. We are not LNER, and we are not connected to LNER in any way.
We are independent
This website is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by London North Eastern Railway Limited (LNER), the Department for Transport, Network Rail or any train company. Despite our web address, we are not the official LNER website, and we cannot sell tickets, change bookings, handle refunds, compensation claims, lost property or complaints.
For anything to do with a booking or a journey, contact LNER directly through the official LNER website.
What this site is for
LNER runs long-distance trains from London King's Cross to Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland. We've written a guide to every station those trains call at: what's worth seeing nearby, how long the journey takes, which routes stop there and where to stay. There are also plain-English guides to tickets, Railcards, Delay Repay, luggage and accessibility.
How we research
- The list of stations and routes comes from LNER's published timetable guide for May–December 2026, cross-checked against other public sources.
- Journey times and frequencies are read from that timetable and rounded; they describe the quickest scheduled trains, not every train.
- Ticket, Railcard and on-board information comes from the official LNER, National Rail and Railcards websites, checked in September 2026.
- Attractions link to their own official websites. We don't publish ratings, prices or opening times that could go out of date — check the official site before you go.
- Station positions come from the Department for Transport's NaPTAN dataset, and the map outline from Natural Earth (public domain).
- Each page lists the sources we checked. If we couldn't verify something, we left it out.
Names and trade marks
"LNER" and "London North Eastern Railway" are used on this site only to describe the train services the guide covers. Any trade marks belong to their owners. The site's design, maps and illustrations are our own original work, and we don't use LNER's logos or LNER's own photographs.
Photographs
The photographs of stations and places are freely licensed images from Wikimedia Commons (which also hosts many photos from the Geograph Britain and Ireland project). Each one is used under its Creative Commons licence or public domain status, and the photographer and licence are credited on every photo and on our photo credits page. We resize the images and convert them to WebP so pages load quickly; we don't otherwise alter them. Where a station has no photo yet, you'll see one of our own illustrations instead.
How the site is funded
Some links to booking and hotel websites may become affiliate links, which means we could earn a small commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. This never affects what we write. See our affiliate disclosure.
